It is a mid-July morning, and the sun is already bright and the sky is vivid. The dogs have had their morning chow and we have had a few minutes outside in the back yard meditating in the sunshine. Now we are comfortable on the couches inside, while the temperatures rise. Summer has been a time of rest, relaxation, laughter, and recharging. The days have melted together, and we have found a nice place of life here in our household. I savor each morning awake in quiet with the dogs and a coffee, thinking about what each day will bring, and just enjoying the quiet. I remember waking often as a child to my mother sitting in the living room with a cup of coffee on the couch just being and sitting silently. That is a thing most cannot do: sit silently. It is something that has helped me grow my entire life, being able to be quiet and just exist with the world. This most recent trip to Juneau with Violet reminded me of the quiet, and how sweet it can be when we are just talking through the trees or by the water and just taking in all that is around, but not adding to the noise. Too many people today feel the need to constantly make noise when it is OK to simply BE!
The middle of July is a strange, yet pleasant time! We don't have travel planned, so our family has been focused on routine and all the little things right now. Sam and I go on daily bike rides, I walk the dogs, lots of cleaning and baking, books, movies, screens, runs, workouts, instrument lessons, swimming, and now we are also preparing for major home renovations (hopefully beginning int he next few weeks). So there is much to do despite not having any real plans "on the books". I have been watching the World Cup a bit, and it has been a breath of fresh air to see citizens of the world enjoying the United States and the people of our country welcoming-in the rest of the world. During our travels to Juneau, we saw people from Scotland in the airport singing and in their kilts! I hope that the world sees that the people of America are separate from the administration that currently sits atop our government.
That is the big stage...but right now I am focusing on the small things until August. Waking up each morning, giving hugs to my family, walking my dogs, getting exercise, keeping my home clean, working on projects that bring satisfaction...just taking the time to allow myself to be and to breath and to just enjoy existing while not making too much noise!
