Orbit

Dad and Uncle Michael together again!

Sometimes we are lucky enough to have people that maintain an orbit of sorts around our own lives.  These are not the people we see every day, month, or even year.  However, when they do cross our path, our lives are made brighter, happier...better.  This was the case this past week when my Uncle Michael and Cousin Jonathon came from Oregon and Washington to visit for a few days.

The arrives Thursday night, and we celebrated Violet's 7th birthday with some Panera and catching-up with life.  It was a treat to see my dad and uncle together again.  Growing up in Juneau, it was not uncommon to visit Uncle Michael every couple days and help with his latest project.  Now we sit around my kitchen island talking about his current projects and getting to know Violet and Sam for the first time.  Cousin Jonathon is fantastic, and I am curious about his recent empty nest status and life as a dad and new member of the 50 year club!

They visited my classroom and presented about the history of the American flag.  We took my dad to the Morton Arboretum and found most of the giant wood trolls hiding in the forests.  We enjoyed some fantastic Indian food, as well as a trip to the Dollar Store!  Finally, this afternoon, we savored a fine meal at The Bagel in downtown Chicago before parting ways once again.  With them, it is never goodbye...but rather, "See you next time."
